Rock Hung Bio

Mr. Rock Hung was born in 1962 and has dedicated 12 years to studying the violin before becoming an official apprentice of Su Ding Hsuan. He has experience as a violinist in a symphony orchestra, which has provided him with a profound understanding of the instrument’s tone, technique, and expression. With 40 years of exposure to violin making, he was inspired during his university years when he discovered that members of his orchestra were using Su Ding Hsuan violins, which exhibited performance qualities surpassing many European instruments.

Rock Hung frequently visited the Su Ding Hsuan workshop to craft violins, immersing himself in the study of the acoustic principles of violin sound. This passion led him to formally apprentice under Su, where he honed his skills for 10 years, focusing on wood selection, the application of various natural varnishes, and the optimization of materials and specifications for different violin components.

After Su’s retirement due to age, Rock Hung continued to build upon the foundation and collaborative supervision established by Su, dedicating another 10 years to research and development. He consistently refined his material selection and varnishing techniques, resulting in the creation of a higher grade and rare series of Su Ding Hsuan violins.
